An Ethiopian diaspora team from Atlanta, Georgia, launched a state-of-the-art dialysis unit with a clinical partner in Addis Ababa.
Tigist Abebe, CEO and Founder of Yeabe Medical Center and Rehabilitation, described an outlay of over 10 million birr to start dialysis services. About 30 machines were delivered to the facility.
Partner clinical leadership noted that dialysis demand in Ethiopia is high. Upon completion, the unit was expected to serve 200–240 people per week, a roughly tenfold increase from prior capacity of about 24.
Yeabe continues working to reduce the burden of kidney disease in Ethiopia through clinical partnerships, equipment, and training.
